The linear algebra is concerned with linear equations, linear maps and their representations in vector spaces and through matrices.

This includes in particular the consideration of linear systems of equations and matrices.

In 1844, German mathematician Hermann Grassmann developed a notation for linear algebra in his book Theory of extensions.
