Intersection point

In geometry, an intersection point of two curves is a point that lies on both curves.

Explanation

On a graphing calculator, you can show the points of intersection.

Example 1

The equation x2 = √x  has two solutions, x1 = 0 and x2 = 1, which you can see on the graph.

A calculation gives

x2 = x½
(x2)2 = ( x½)2
x4 = x
x4 − x = 0
x(x3 − 1) = 0     ⇒      x1 = 0
and  x2 = 1.
