Simplifying fractions
Calculations with fractions are not always easy.
Explanation
We start with
First we just make the denominators equal
and write this as one fraction
Now we calculate the numerator
and eliminate the parenthesis in the numerator
We can put something outside parentheses
You can now divide the numerator and denominator by x – 2
Don't call that scratch-out, because you really perform a division, and there remains 1. Moreover, dividing by zero is not allowed, so you must add that this solution only holds for x ≠ 2.
