Doppler effect

The Doppler effect is the change in frequency of any signal caused by a relative motion of source and receiver.

 


Explanation

This phenomenon applies to both light and sound waves.

 


History

The effect is named after the Austrian physicist Christian Doppler, who described it in 1842.
