You cannot write √2 as a quotient of two integers.

Explanation

It is an irrational number. For simple use you can of course take an approximation with the fraction

but nowadays, everyone has a calculator, which is just as easy.

History

In the pythagorean school this was regarded as a proof of demonstation, that integers are not qualified to describe the real world.
